"FURY & AFFECTION"

by Juliana Hoffman

FADE IN:

INT. HARRY’S LIVING ROOM – DAY

HARRY and SALLY enter the living room.

SALLY

So where have you been?

HARRY

Away.

SALLY

Where?

HARRY

That’s not important

SALLY

All right, fine. I’ll assume you were in jail.

Harry is surprised. He doesn’t know what to say.

SALLY (cont’d)

I know, how can I miss you if you never leave. Jail’s free.

HARRY

Actually they make you work for fifty cents an hour.

SALLY

So that’s where you were!

HARRY

No kiddo. I had a surprise for you. Now you don’t get it.

SALLY

Tell me where you’ve been.

HARRY

No.

SALLY

What do you gain from keeping it a secret?

HARRY

Your undivided attention.

SALLY

Jerk.

They sit on opposite ends of the couch. Sally is sulking. Harry is enjoying it.

HARRY

(sings)

I make you mad.

It makes me glad.

I love to see you squirm

Just like a little worm.

SALLY

(sings)

You make me sick, sick, sick

Just like a candlestick, stick, stick.

Light you up and watch you burn.

HARRY

Violent aren’t we?

SALLY

Why am I still in this room. I should go paint roses on your car so everyone can see how much you’re loved. I’ll paint the biggest one on your windshield in front of your face. (beat) Satisfied. Now tell me or I’ll walk out of here and never come back.

HARRY

I took a vacation so you could miss me.

SALLY

What’s the surprise?

HARRY

I missed you.

Sally hits him with the couch cushion.

FADE OUT.
